That's according to Gazzetta dello Sport's Nicolo Schira.
Spanish giants Atletico are “really interested", insists Schira, who are prepared to offer the 30-year-old a three-year deal.
He tweeted: “#AtleticoMadrid is really interested in Alexis #Sanchez. He could leave from #ManchesterUnited in summer and #Simeone has offered to “El Nino Maravilla" a contract until 2022."
Sanchez previously spent three years in Spain with Barcelona and scored 47 times in his 141 appearances with the Catalans.
United are likely to waive a fee for Alexis if Atletico agree to take on his wages in full. Alexis would be expected to take a major cut on his current £300,000-a-week deal.
