Falcao makes passionate defence of Barcelona star Messi

AS Monaco's Colombia striker Radamel Falcao has jumped to the defence of Argentina captain Leo Messi.

Colombia defeated Argentina in their opening game of the Copa America.

Barcelona star Messi has been hammered by his local press, but Falcao says: "If he scores a goal, they ask him for two.

"If he scores a free-kick, they say the wall wasn't lined up correctly.

"If Argentina lose, they talk about it being his fault, it's the price he has to pay for being the best in the world."

However, Falcao was clearly concerned by the threat posed by Messi throughout their clash.

"Messi was close to turning us over, I'm sure he will in the next two games," he insisted.

"For us, we can't think we are candidates just because we beat Messi's Argentina, there's still work to do."
