Police have said they are dealing with an incident at London Bridge after reports gunshots were heard.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a man with a knife, before a man was shot and killed by armed police, sources said. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the matter was being dealt with by colleagues at the City of London Police.
A City of London spokeswoman said she ‘cannot confirm any details’ at this early stage. Witnesses said officers were shouting at people to move away from the area. The Met have told people at the scene to follow the directions of officers.
Videos and pictures posted to social media showed police cars at the bridge as the sound of sirens could be heard.
One video shows what appears to be police pulling equipment out of a vehicle nearby. Those in the video can be heard saying: ‘They’ve actually got guns out. They’ve got the guns out.’
BBC correspondent John McManus told BBC News that he had heard several gun shots. He said: ‘Just a few minutes ago I was walking across London Bridge on the south bank to the north bank of the bridge. ‘There appeared to be a fight going on on the other side of the bridge, with several men attacking one man.’
London Ambulance Service said it also had crews at the scene.
