Agent Mateo Materazzi admits Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud was the victim of circumstances as he failed to land a move to Inter Milan last month.
Materazzi says the failed swap involving Matteo Politano and Roma defender Leonardo Spinazzola ultimately wrecked the move.
He told Sky Italia: “Inter were very close to signing him. Then there was the Politano and Spinazzola problem, which blocked the situation.
"When Politano signed for Napoli, Lazio and Tottenham got into the race for Giroud.
"But Lampard has vetoed. Giroud would have been the ideal purchase."
