Trevor Phillips suspended from Labour over Islamophobia allegations

The former head of the UK’s equalities watchdog, Trevor Phillips, has been suspended from the Labour Party over allegations of Islamophobia.
Mr Phillips is understood to have been suspended by the party's general secretary Jennie Formby over previous comments he made about Muslims, in order to "protect the party's reputation".
He now faces an investigation and could be permanently expelled from the party.
The party said it takes such complaints about Islamophobia "extremely seriously".
A spokeswoman said: "They are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures, and any appropriate disciplinary action is taken.”
