Queen Elizabeth II stands unaided in first meeting since spraining her back (Photos & Video)

The Queen was seen standing without a stick during her first face-to-face audience since spraining her back and missing the Remembrance service.

The 95-year-old monarch met General Sir Nick Carter, the Chief of the Defence Staff, at Windsor Castle.

She was dressed in a green, orange and white floral dress, and wore a string of pearls as she greeted the military chief in the castle’s Oak Room.

It is the first time in nearly a month the Queen has been pictured carrying out an in-person engagement since she hosted a reception for the global investment summit on October 19.

She did hold a face-to-face audience with Boris Johnson before her sprain last week, but was not pictured doing so.

It comes after Buckingham Palace released a last-minute statement on Sunday cancelling her appearance an hour-and-a-half before the event began at the Cenotaph.

Prince Charles was teary-eyed during the service in central London as he laid a poppy wreath on behalf of his mother.

The Queen’s latest injury has sparked concerns over the impact of car journeys and longer periods of standing.

It followed another health scare last month, which saw the Queen staying in hospital overnight for the first time in eight years, forcing the cancellation of two trips.

In a statement, the Palace said the Queen had ‘great regret’ over missing the annual Remembrance event.

‘The Queen, having sprained her back, has decided this morning with great regret that she will not be able to attend today’s Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph,’ the statement read.

‘Her Majesty is disappointed that she will miss the service. As in previous years, a wreath will be laid on Her Majesty’s behalf by The Prince of Wales.

‘His Royal Highness, along with the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, the Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra will be present at the Cenotaph today as planned.’
