Meghan Markle's New Year's resolutions revealed - including stopping swearing

Meghan Markle is just like the rest of us in the fact that she plans New Year's resolutions for the year ahead.

But now her former resolutions, that she announced just six months before meeting Prince Harry and their whirlwind romance beginning, have resurfaced amid reports that the couple plans to make 2024 their "year of redemption".

On January 1, 2016, Meghan took to her now-defunct blog The Tig to share her resolutions. But she admitted that she's just the same as everyone else as she confessed some resolutions make it to her list every year.

She began by writing: "These make my New Year's resolution list nearly (AKA actually every) single year. The swearing comes in lulls triggered by being overworked or feeling mighty cheeky after a couple drinks."

Writing on her blog at the time, Meghan continued: "And when it comes to the biting of the nails—well, it still happens with a turbulent flight or a stressful day. It's unladylike. But then again, so is the swearing. Dammit."

The Duchess of Sussex also confessed that she didn't follow through with her other resolutions including running a marathon and relearning French.

She admitted that French "hasn't stuck" and that she still hadn't done a marathon but she had an important message to share with fans about how to approach life in the New Year.

The former Suits actress said: "For this new year, the only thing I aim to do is to approach life playfully. To laugh and enjoy, to keep my standards high but my level of self-acceptance higher."

She also shared that she wanted to "leave room for magic" as she planned for the year ahead.

Meghan's former resolutions have now resurfaced after sources claimed that she and Prince Harry, who also has some New Year wishes, are hoping for a "year of redemption" after a tough 2023.

It comes as their Christmases continue to be very different since they left the royal family in 2020. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex last spent the festive period with the Royal Family on the Sandringham Estate in 2018.

A year later, they decided to celebrate in America with Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland before stepping back from The Firm in 2020 and permanently moving to the States.

Despite now seeming to be settled and happy in Montecito, California, Prince Harry and Meghan are reported to be thinking about a move to Los Angeles.

The couple have suffered a number of setbacks this year after ending their Spotify contract early and being branded "biggest losers" of the year by The Hollywood Reporter.

Omid Scobie's biography Endgame has also said to have caused a backlash for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

However, the couple who have recently enjoyed a break in Costa Rica are said to be planning to make 2024 their 'year of redemption'.

Speaking at the Power of Women gala in LA last month, Meghan said the couple have "so many exciting things on the slate".

She said: "I can't wait until we can announce them, but I'm just really proud of what we're creating. My husband is loving it too, which is really fun"
