In March, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex launched a new brand, including a website, Instagram account, and the inaugural product - jars of strawberry jam - which were distributed to 50 friends and influencers for taste-testing. Notably, Meghan personally hand-wrote the numbers 1 through 50 on each jar, hinting at the exclusivity of the product.
However, the launch faced some criticism, with royal expert and author Tom Quinn suggesting that Meghan now perceives any action she takes as subject to unfair scrutiny. "Like her husband, she feels that people are unfairly picking on her. She can't understand why people don't admire her work," Quinn told The Mirror.
He also noted that Meghan may be "extremely sensitive about any criticism of a luxurious lifestyle in the United States," arguing that "from her point of view, this is something to be admired, not criticized."
Interestingly, a blind item suggested that Meghan's longtime friend, tennis star Serena Williams, did not receive a jar of the jam, despite attending a polo event where the products were distributed.
The reason for this is unclear, but some have speculated it could be due to Williams' advocacy for environmental causes and potential discomfort with Meghan and Prince Harry's use of private jets.
