There's little doubt that Meghan Markle is relishing her newfound freedom from the constraints of royal life. In the four years since she and Prince Harry stepped down as senior working royals, the former Duchess of Sussex has shown no signs of regret over that fateful decision.
In fact, according to royal expert and author Tom Quinn, Meghan seems to be reveling in the chance to exact a bit of "revenge" on the institution she left behind.
With high-profile projects like her Archewell foundation and the launch of her own lifestyle brand, "American Riviera Orchard," Meghan has carved out an impressive international profile for herself - one that, by all accounts, has the Palace feeling rather threatened.
The couple's recent tour of Nigeria, which featured all the pomp and pageantry of an official royal visit, is said to have particularly irked King Charles and Prince William.
Quinn notes that the warm welcome the Sussexes received, complete with grand receptions, school visits, and meetings with wounded soldiers, made it seem as though they were still fully-fledged members of the Firm.
As for Charles, Quinn says the monarch is "angrier than anyone he's ever seen" over the Sussexes' brazen attempt to emulate the trappings of monarchy.
Meanwhile, Meghan herself seems to revel in the chaos, with the author describing her as "tougher than Harry" and delighting in the "battle" against the institution she's chosen to leave behind.
In her mind, the Nigeria trip allowed her to finally feel the sense of recognition and importance she was long denied as a working royal.
So while Harry may still be grappling with the fallout from his family separation, it seems Meghan has found a certain vindication in carving her own path. And the royals, it appears, are none too pleased about it.
