Prince Harry's highly anticipated memoir, Spare, unfortunately fell short of winning two significant accolades at the recently held British Book Awards 2024. The event took place at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in central London.
Despite being nominated in two categories, namely Book of the Year - Audiobook Non-Fiction and Book of the Year - Non-Fiction: Narrative, the Duke of Sussex did not secure victory in either of them.
In the Non-Fiction Narrative category, Rory Stewart's Politics On the Edge emerged as the winner, triumphing over Spare, Steven Bartlett's The Diary of a CEO, and Britney Spears' The Woman in Me. Similarly, in the audiobook category, Harry's memoir lost to Fern Brady's Strong Female Character, which also faced tough competition from David Mitchell's Unruly and Patrick Stewart's Making It So. Published in January 2023, Spare aimed to provide a raw and candid account of the prince's personal journey, as per publisher Penguin Random House.
According to the Bookseller, Spare sold over 700,000 copies through the TCM (Total Consumer Market) in 2023 alone. While Prince Harry may have missed out on the awards, the book's commercial success undoubtedly solidifies its impact and popularity among readers.
