Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a high-profile exit from the royal family back in 2020. It wound up making headlines around the world, and the two have spent very little time together with Harry’s family ever since.

Meghan Markle has not returned to the United Kingdom since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022; she missed King Charles’ coronation in 2023, and she and Harry have not returned for a Trooping the Colour over the last two years. But Meghan apparently will “never return” to the UK unless one condition is met, according to a royal expert.

When Harry and Meghan gave up their HRH royal titles, they retained their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles but were stripped of their royal security. They only returned to the UK twice as a family after that security was lost; both visits were in honor of the queen in 2022.

Now, rumor has it that Meghan will ‘never’ find herself in the UK again unless the two have their own place to stay in — and proper security to go along with it. Royal expert Tom Quinn told Mirror that the duchess will not set foot on UK soil if she has to stay with Harry’s family.

“Meghan has said she’s only prepared to return to England if she and Harry have a place of their own and the security they both feel is essential,” Quinn said. “Meghan will never return to the UK and stay with her husband‘s relatives.”

Quinn also said that it won’t be easy for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to befriend Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children, though it is possible. “If the couple manage to find a permanent home and sort out the security issue, they will certainly want to bring their children to the UK,” he said, “but it’s going to take a lot of diplomacy to get to the point where Archie and Lili are able to develop a genuine and warm relationship with their cousins George, Charlotte and Louis.”
