Despite relocating to the U.S. in 2020 and stepping away from royal duties, Harry and Meghan’s efforts to reshape their narrative amid their ongoing rift with the royal family appear to be falling short.
Prince William Emerges as Most Popular Living Royal in the U.S.
According to the poll conducted between April 21 and 23, Prince William topped the list of most admired living royals among American adults. The Prince of Wales enjoyed an impressive 63% favorability rating, with only 10% viewing him negatively.
In contrast, Meghan Markle received a 41% positive rating, while 25% of respondents viewed her unfavorably—a notable setback, especially within the country she now calls home. Her ranking places her below other royals, including Princess Catherine (Kate Middleton) and King Charles III.
Prince Harry Outshines Meghan but Still Trails William
Interestingly, Prince Harry did manage to secure the second-highest favorability in the poll. With 56% of Americans viewing him positively, he continues to resonate with a segment of the U.S. population. However, 21% still hold a negative opinion, placing him behind his older brother William in terms of overall public support.
Princess Kate and King Charles Also Rank Higher Than Meghan
The poll also showed that Princess Catherine holds a strong public image in the U.S., with 49% of respondents viewing her favorably, and only 6% expressing a negative opinion.
Meanwhile, King Charles III garnered support from just under 50% of Americans surveyed. However, a significant 27% held a negative view, indicating a more polarizing perception of the British monarch across the Atlantic.
U.S. Move Fails to Shift Public Sentiment Toward the Sussexes
The survey further explored American opinions on Harry and Meghan’s departure from the UK, with 42% supporting the couple’s decision to step back from royal duties and relocate, while 19% opposed the move.
