Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have stepped back from royal duties, but they appear to still be benefiting from their former royal status, according to recent expert commentary.

In a revealing discussion on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive podcast, PR expert Mark Borkowski criticized Meghan Markle for continuing to use her HRH title, even though the couple no longer serve in an official royal capacity. He claimed the title grants her considerable social capital, especially in elite American circles.

Gift Signed as ‘HRH The Duchess of Sussex’ Raises Eyebrows

The debate reignited after Meghan appeared on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, where the host shared a thoughtful gift basket she received from the Duchess. The package, which included homemade strawberry sauce and ice cream, came with a note signed:

"With Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex."

The signature raised concerns about whether Meghan is ignoring her agreement with the Royal Family, under which she and Prince Harry were no longer to use the His/Her Royal Highness titles in any formal capacity.

Expert Claims Meghan's Royal Branding Boosts Her Status

Borkowski suggested that Meghan’s continued use of royal styling might not be accidental. Instead, it could be a strategic tool to secure better treatment and professional influence.

“Well, it's clearly social capital. I'm sure her PA uses it to ensure she gets that top table at a restaurant,” Borkowski remarked.

“It holds significant weight in America, where having a royal title still carries immense prestige.”

Accusations of Hypocrisy Emerge

Calling the move 

“hypocritical,” the PR expert implied that Meghan is selectively leveraging her royal connections when it suits her ambitions.

“It’s something of value—particularly in the social circles she moves in,” he said.

“It’s not a great look, in my estimation.”

This isn’t the first time Meghan’s use of royal branding has come under fire. Critics continue to question whether she and Prince Harry have truly distanced themselves from the monarchy, or whether they’re still relying on it as a career-building asset.
