Blake Lively has never seemed particularly bright. But her alleged attempt to blackmail Taylor Swift by threatening to leak private texts will be the end of her — socially, professionally and reputationally.
Before we go any further: This is an all-too-rare friendship break-up of magnificent proportions, two wealthy, famous middle-aged women fighting it out publicly.
It's incredible!
In one corner we have Swift, 35, a self-made billionaire who just wrapped up the most successful live music tour ever.
Now: I'm sure it was a very deep, profound trust these two shared. I'm sure this was a very consequential friendship, the demise of which has left both utterly heartbroken.
Just kidding!
Blake Lively and Taylor Swift's 10-year friendship is '100% done'
This is Taylor Swift we're talking about — no shortage of former best friends and ex-boyfriends have been left in her wake, and/or used for songwriting material.
Just ask Karlie Kloss, Katy Perry, Jaime King, RFK Jr.'s son Conor Kennedy, Calvin Harris, Zendaya, Dianna Agron, Joe Alwyn, Matty Healy, Tom Hiddleston, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joe Jonas, Harry Styles — to name a few.
Blake is just the latest addition to Taylor's burn book. Hope she's bracing for the forthcoming album, which will doubtless be all about this latest betrayal.
Through legal filings released this week, we learned that Blake has allegedly been threatening to release deeply private communiques from Swift — some involving ex-boyfriends and current beau Travis Kielce — to coerce the singer into taking her side in the It Ends With Us legal feud.
Though Lively denies this, an insider told the Daily Mail that Swift has been left 'completely floored' and 'very upset', and feels 'exploited' by her best friend.
These two, in my opinion, were exploiting each other.
Two stars together are bigger than one, even if you're a supernova like Taylor Swift. The only question is: How could Swift not have seen Lively's cutthroat ways till now — and vice versa?
We've been inundated with photos of Swift and Lively all over each other, clasping hands on the way to dinner, holding each other close on nightclub banquettes or in NFL VIP boxes — only for this meeting of the minds to suffer such an untimely end.
Whatever will we do?
The Taylor v. Blake conflict threatens to completely overwhelm the real lawsuit, in which Lively alleges that Justin Baldoni, her director and co-star on It Ends with Us, subjected her to sexual and workplace harassment.
Baldoni has countersued, claiming that Lively is lying, that she and her husband Ryan Reynolds are attempting to destroy his burgeoning career, and that Lively used her BFF Taylor as leverage — one of her 'dragons', as she put it in an alleged text to Baldoni.
It's mystifying that Swift, one of the world's most famous women, would put so much private info in writing.
Didn't she learn anything from the very lengthy, embarrassing and emasculating email that her father Scott allegedly wrote in 2005 — the one in which he bitched about being Taylor's handmaiden and spending all his money, literally doing 'anything', to make her famous?
An email that was made public in — you guessed it — a lawsuit brought against Scott Swift by one of Taylor's former managers?
What a blunder for someone who otherwise is so careful about her public image, who prides herself on being such a shrewd businesswoman.
To that end — don't think for a second that those candid photos of Taylor and Travis out for a Mother's Day brunch in a mid-priced, regular-person restaurant in Philly were accidental.
That's Swift trying to show us she's just a normal person, one of us, even if she's carrying a Chanel bag worth at least $10,000.
Even if Travis is deeply in the throes of a Hollywood makeover, ordered by his team to lose weight and get his head back in the game.
Nope: Taylor is just your wholesome, hardworking American pop star, out to lunch with her future mother-in-law, showing us all that she has her priorities straight, even if that means dining with the great unwashed.
Lively, meanwhile, was photographed that same weekend in New York City alone — no kids, no Ryan, no famous friends.
Not even a Mother's Day Insta post to engender public sympathy.
Same for Kelce and celeb pals like Hugh Jackman and Gigi Hadid, all bracing to be drawn into this increasingly sordid lawsuit.
Hadid, by the way, reportedly wants nothing more to do with Lively either.
Blake wasn't invited to the supermodel's starry 30th birthday party in April, where Bradley Cooper and Anne Hathaway were in attendance.
As one insider told the Daily Mail, 'Gigi's loyalty is to Taylor.'
Brutal.
Lively was also uninvited to watch the Super Bowl from Taylor's VIP box, and was a no-show at this year's Met Gala — despite being Anna Wintour's pet.
It's truly wild that Lively hasn't moved to settle this lawsuit, issue some vague statement about crossed wires or misread signals, donate to a women's charity and move on.
Instead, she's awakened the slumbering wrath of one Taylor Swift — her one-time 'dragon'.
How the tables have turned.
