Piers Morgan has implied Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's team leaked claims the couple have reached out privately to Prince William and Kate Middleton following Kate's shock cancer announcement.
The former Good Morning Britain presenter, who said he had heard "alarming things" regarding Kate prior to the future Queen sharing her cancer news on Friday, has seemingly taken a swipe at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as the world continues to react to the Princess of Wales' health update.
Kate, 42, announced on Friday that tests after her surgery on January 16 showed cancer had been present. In her video statement to the world confirming her diagnosis, recorded in Windsor on Wednesday, Kate spoke of "an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family".
"In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous," Kate said in the video released on Friday night. "The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment."
In the wake of Kate's message being aired, Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, also showed their support for Kate and the rest of the family. "We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace," the couple said in their statement.
Following the couple's statement, ITV's royal editor Chris Ship revealed that the Duke of Sussex, who resides in California with his wife Meghan, "has reached out to his brother". Taking to Twitter, Ship revealed: "Prince Harry has reached out to his brother, Prince William after learning of Kate’s cancer. Harry and Meghan have both been in touch with their brother/sister-in-law but did so privately. It not clear if that was a phone/video call or some messages of support."
On Sunday night, American publication PEOPLE reported their understanding "that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have privately reached out to the Prince and Princess of Wales amid Kate's cancer diagnosis." Tweeting their report out, PEOPLE wrote on Twitter: "Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Privately Reached Out to Kate Middleton and Prince William After Cancer Announcement." YouTuber Morgan, 58, quote-tweeted PEOPLE's original post and added: "If it was done 'privately' then how do you know?" The broadcaster added an emoji of a face with a monocle.
It's thought Harry and Meghan were not told about Kate's diagnosis before the world found out about it on Friday night, according to reports. The Sussexes are believed to have learned that Kate is having preventative chemotherapy at the same time as the rest of the world.
According to an insider speaking to the New York Post, Harry and Meghan "had no idea" that Kate had been diagnosed with cancer when the news broke. Speaking to the outlet, a source said: "They had no idea, and only learnt of the news around the same time the rest of the world found out. This goes to show the irreparable damage they have caused. The trust has been broken and the royal family is OK distancing themselves from them."
