Meghan Markle could be set to avoid a UK return despite Prince Harry's Invictus Games appearance, a royal expert has claimed.
The Sussexes are expected to return to the UK in May as part of the 10th anniversary of the Games. But, an expert believes the former Suits star may opt to stay at home in the States and could come up with an "excuse" if she doesn't feel up to crossing the Atlantic.
If she were to return to be by her husband's side for the event, it will mark her first UK appearance since September 2022. But it's thought their recent legal loss regarding their security in the UK could provide the "perfect excuse" for Meghan to back out heading over.
Expert Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun: "The security would be decided on a case-by-case basis, they would make sure the trip was secure from the point of view of the UK. I think security could be used as an excuse not to come though."
He continued to say Meghan has "every right to come" but said she now has the perfect excuse to stay stateside and avoid any awkward confrontations with the Royal Family. Fitzwilliams added Meghan has "the perfect excuse not to come over because Harry has lost his security case".
It could show the fractures in the family are far from being healed, especially considering Meghan has been by Harry's side for recent Invictus Games events. Following her appearance at the Games in Germany last September, she was also present as he took part in the year-to-go event surrounding the Games next year in Whistler.
It's thought Meghan made a not-so-subtle nod to her former royal life as she and put on a united front on the slopes at the event in February. The nod to her time as a working royal seemingly came in the form of the £648 Doen coat that she was wearing - in a style called 'Kensington'. Of course, in the early days of Harry and Meghan's romance, they lived in Nottingham Cottage, part of Kensington Palace, which was also their official office alongside the now Prince and Princess of Wales.
It is still the official residence of William and Kate and also where Harry grew up as his mother, Princess Diana lived there in the latter years of her life.
