Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's private plane row has been ongoing for quite some time.

Prince Harry has been one of the pioneers behind Travalyst which promotes sustainable tourism and improving the impact on the planet from travel. Prince Harry founded the initiative in 2019 and the website states: "The goal is to bring credible, consistent sustainability information to the mainstream, helping both travellers and travel companies make better, greener choices".

And on the Sussexes' newly-launched website, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reveal their environmental credentials with Prince Harry described as "a humanitarian, military veteran, mental health advocate, and environmental campaigner".

In 2022, the Duke of Sussex also warned the United Nations about the growing perils of climate change when he passionately said: "Our world is on fire again. And these historic weather events are no longer historic. More and more, they are part of our daily lives, and this crisis will only grow worse."

Coming under fire

Because of the Sussexes' preaching when it comes to climate change, whenever the couple fly from country to country - or even within countries - they come under fire from critics. Earlier this year in February, the couple enjoyed a luxury private jet ride while they were in Canada, with this coming in stark contrast to their claims to be sustainable and promoting 'green' practices.

The couple were in Canada back in February for the Invictus Games' one-year-to-go celebrations, with them taking a two-hour trip from Santa Barbara to Vancouver in a private jet. Also while on their trip, the couple set off just 39 minutes later to Victoria on Vancouver Island - a 15 minute trip.

Flying First Class

But just last week, the couple flew via British Airways when they jetted from the UK to Nigeria. When Harry was back in the UK for an Invictus Games event earlier this month, Meghan flew from LA to Heathrow to meet her husband, with the pair reuniting at the Windsor Suite.

They then hopped on an overnight flight to Abuja, Nigeria's capital, with them reportedly flying First Class. Their 11-hour journey was slightly delayed as the scheduled pilot fell ill and a last-minute replacement had to be found, as per reports.

Air miles

Previously, the couple came under fire for the air miles they racked up. A study by Stratos Jet Charters, which was published in 2021, found the pair had racked up a number of air miles on royal trips between 2015 and the year the report was published.

According to the report, Prince Harry travelled 51,362 air miles across seven trips. Meanwhile, Meghan had travelled less, being a new member of the Royal Family. She totted up 16,398 air miles across three trips, according to reports.

Flying on a private jet

According to the MailOnline, Harry and Meghan opted to fly in a lavish 12-seater Cessna jet when they chose to fly privately to the Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

Reports at the time claimed that Harry and Meghan's private jet retailed for around $6.5million (£5.2million) - before a pilot was even hired. The Cessna 680 Citation Sovereign plane featured spacious bathrooms, mood lighting, comfortable leather seats, and on-board WiFi with executive desks.

The Sussexes are reported to have chosen to fly via private jet for the sheer comfort due to it being their children's first long-haul flight to the UK.
