Meghan Markle could be set to make it all the way to The White House after a string of experts backed her for a potential presidency bid.

The Duchess of Sussex has gained attention for a potential political career following her recent trip alongside husband Prince Harry to Nigeria. This week saw her Suits co-star Erika Alexander claim that Meghan is "heading to the White House," as she backed her for a move towards becoming POTUS.

Meghan has now been advised to draw inspiration from a somewhat unlikely source if she dreams of taking on the biggest role in the World - Donald Trump. Prince Harry, meanwhile, would be urged to make sure he becomes a US citizen in order to cement his wife's bid.

Historian and US politics expert Professor Christopher Phelps told MailOnline : "It would be a great story. The British prince who loved her so much he gave up his British citizenship to become an American. There would be no requirement for him to do it - but he would have to if she wanted to have any credibility."

The couple's pseudo-royal tour to Nigeria was such a success that a political insider from liberal California also told the publication that Meghan could be looking to "queue jump" into a high US political office just like Trump did. He is currently the sole American president to have had no previous political service before becoming a candidate.

The source said: "She [Meghan] has her eyes on the prize," but a second insider scrutinised the move adding: "The buy-your-success thing is more suited as a Republican play. Meghan has political ambitions but like most celebrities or business people, they are not ready to put in the graft to get there. Maybe Oprah Winfrey could pull it off. But she's put in the hard yards in other ways. Meghan hasn't done anything."

Professor Phelps - a teacher at the University of Nottingham in England - remarked that Meghan could also draw comparisons with Ronald Regan who was an actor before becoming Governor of California and going on to become the 40th president of the United States from 1981 to 1989. Arnold Schwarzenegger was also another Hollywood star who switched acting for a career in US politics.

Professor Phelps admitted that "her name will open doors" but that you "can't just say 'You all know who I am - vote for me." He also added that "she will need to have some substance on policy. Americans want to know how she would protect their jobs, where she stand of tax and to tackle crime in their neighbourhoods."
