A row around Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's charity, The Archewell Foundation, is seemingly turning into a blame game with the organisation and state officials blaming each other.

The foundation has been declared "delinquent" in the US and ordered to suspend all fundraising and spending due to its failure to submit its annual report and registration fees. The note said the charity is now considered "not in good standing" and is restricted from undertaking activities requiring registration, such as soliciting or distributing charitable funds.

It added: "The organisation may also be subject to penalties, and its registration may be suspended or revoked." However, sources close to the Sussexes have claimed that the "delinquency notice" was actually issued because Attorney General Rob Bonta's office did not process a $200 (£159) cheque, which Harry and Meghan previously insisted was sent on time but allegedly went missing in the post.

Sussex sources told Mail Online that the foundation's tax filings for 2022 were submitted in accordance with all regulations in the US, adding that the state filing, renewal, and required payment were sent and delivered to the Attorney General's office via tracked mail, and received on time.

But the insiders said the delinquency notice was issued on May 3 as the cheque had not been processed by the Attorney General's Office. The cheque was for an annual registration renewal fee, established by a sliding scale based on the organisation's total revenue - in Archewell's case, about $2million (£1.59million).

It comes after a source close to Harry and Meghan told The Mirror: "For whatever reason, it has not been cashed. As soon as the foundation learnt of the problem, they immediately issued another cheque. Harry and Meghan's team hope this will quickly resolve the issue within the next week."

Meghan and Harry founded Archewell in March 2020 after stepping down as senior working royals. Archewell is made up of a non-profit organisation as well as for-profit media ventures including Archewell Audio and Archewell Productions.

The website explains: "The Archewell Foundation is a founding member of The Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund which has awarded $2 million to a cohort of 26 organizations focused on building a safer, more inclusive online world. These young leaders are pioneering innovation in technology and stewarding a tech ecosystem which safeguards human rights."

Meanwhile, it seems that the Sussexes are trying to ignore the Archewell drama and instead focus on their trip to Nigeria. Taking to their website, the couple issued a statement and described their visit to the African country as "unforgettable".
