Sadly, Meghan Markle will miss out on celebrating Mother's Day this year with her two young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The Duchess of Sussex is currently on a 3-day trip to Nigeria with her husband, Prince Harry.
The royal couple were invited to the West African country by the Chief of Defense Staff, and their public engagements include a visit to a school and a training session.
Archie, who just turned 5 last Monday, and Lilibet, who will celebrate her 3rd birthday on June 4th, did not accompany their parents on this overseas visit.
They remain at the family's home in Montecito, California. However, Meghan has not forgotten about her little ones - she recently shared that Lilibet loves singing and dancing, while Archie enjoys construction.
The Duchess usually celebrates Mother's Day privately with her children, but in the past she has also lent her support to charitable campaigns.
For her first Mother's Day in 2019, just 6 days after welcoming baby Archie, the Sussex Royal Instagram account shared a sweet photo of his tiny toes against a backdrop of Forget-Me-Nots - a nod to Princess Diana's favorite flowers.
Meghan also wrote a personal letter, speaking as both a mom and an expectant mom, about the importance of community support, safe pregnancy resources, and nurturing settings for mental and physical wellbeing.
Last year, Meghan supported a campaign from the Alliance of Moms, which raises awareness for expectant and parenting foster youth in Los Angeles.
The organization was co-founded by one of Meghan's closest friends, Kelly McKagen, who praised the Duchess' incredibly nurturing nature.
While Meghan may be away this Mother's Day, her commitment to supporting mothers and families is clear.
Though she and Harry are not representing the British royal family on this trip, they were still warmly welcomed in Nigeria, with the singing of "God Save the King" at a charity event on Saturday.
