West Ham duo Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen both paid tribute to colleague Michail Antonio after scoring against Wolves.
WHAT HAPPENED?
After opening the scoring for the Hammers in the 54th minute of the match from captain Bowen's assist, Soucek performed a special nine-finger celebration as a tribute to team-mate Michail Antonio, who dons West Ham's number nine shirt. Antonio was involved in a horror accident on Saturday after which he had to undergo limb surgery.
Bowen then got on the scoresheet himself to make it 2-1 to the Hammers. He reacted by holding up a West Ham shirt with 'Antonio 9' on the back.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
West Ham players wore a special jersey with Antonio's name and the number 9 printed on the back while warming up ahead of the match. The fans at the London Stadium applauded in a unified manner to pay a heartwarming tribute to the 34-year-old.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Jamaica international had to be airlifted to a hospital where he underwent surgery. The experienced winger will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign and is expected to take at least a year to fully recover.
After Soucek's strike, Matt Doherty briefly brought Wolves into the game by scoring an equaliser in the 69th minute, however, Bowen soon restored his team's lead.
