Harry and Meghan’s ‘major area of tension’ in marriage and why it's unlikely to change

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a "major area of tension" in their marriage, which is "unlikely to change", according to a royal expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their roles as senior working royals in 2020. The couple announced in January of that year that they would be stepping down, with their move to the United States coming mere months later.

Since stepping down and moving across the pond, the couple have set up lives for themselves in Montecito, California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. It has even been claimed that the Duchess never wanted to return to the United Kingdom following the couple's departure.

Royal author Omid Scobie, who penned Finding Freedom in 2020 and Endgame last year, stated in his book that Meghan "never felt at home" in the UK, revealing that the American-born former actress "never wants to set foot again in England."

But Prince Harry is said to be keen to return to the UK following his father's cancer diagnosis and the announcement that his sister-in-law Princess Catherine was also diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. And according to an expert, Harry will want Meghan to accompany him on his trips for "moral support", but it is believed to be "unlikely" that the mother-of-two will do so.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, royal expert and author Tom Quinn told us: "Meghan was pretty adamant when she said she will never return to the UK so it’s very unlikely she will accompany Harry although he will want her to come with him for moral support - this is one of the major areas of tension between the couple."

Meghan has rarely returned to the UK since moving back to her homeland of the States. Back in 2022 Meghan returned to the UK for the late Queen's funeral at Westminster Abbey, and a year later in the autumn of 2023 she returned to the UK again - but left just 90 minutes later.

The Duchess of Sussex made the quick pit stop in London last September as she travelled to be reunited with Prince Harry at the 2023 Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, Germany.

It is thought that Prince Harry will return to his homeland of the United Kingdom in May for an Invictus Games event in London, although it is not yet known if Meghan will accompany her husband or not.

"What she didn't realise is that we already have a shining star on the red carpet, someone who's been there for 70 years. She's called the Queen," the author told The Daily Mail.

She added: 'The Queen is magnificent, and William and Kate grow in stature day by day. She's divine — and how does she stay so slim?'

The writer continued her barrage alluding to Meghan's court victory against the Mail on Sunday for publishing letters between her and her father, Thomas Markle.
